The soul, in weary wandering
Forgotten shore of everything!
The soul will tire once again
Will it find, slowly, then
The path back to that forgotten pond
Which is called that dream beyond
Where joy does sting those hearts anew
In which the trace of Father-Creator, too
Burns with a fire beautiful there
And gleams that soul-spring, bright and fair
In which there is goodness and light
And grief no longer has its bite!
At times the darkness breaks our peace
Tell it — listen, no, just cease
You bring but gloom to the forlorn, the grieving and the ill
For them your face is untamed still!
For those deprived of spirit strong
And in whom no bright essence belongs!
In eyes, the light of creatures dead
The mournful whisper of worlds widespread
Open your eyes — behold that light
And you'll be warmed by ray so bright!
Alas, the hearts are silent still
And malicious rumbling without will!
And there's no light for gray voices' call
For them that light has long since fall!
The final glance will soar above
A hand will rise, will wave with love
And there's no radiance up there
With which the universe will share
The Father-Creator, and forever
His hand is firm in all endeavor!
Alas, He's invisible to them
Who sees this — is saved by Him!
By mortal walls he's not enslaved!
A star burns in his hands, engraved
Will always show the path he's paved!
Who believes, sees — is saved indeed!
By the spirit's dream he's freed!
Who believes, sees far away
For him the road is not so gay
The path is dangerous and thorned
And life fulfills but the caprice adorned
Which in the heart is aimed and bound
In distances it's hidden and found!
But his spirit is untamed
And with it the wanderer is unharmed!
He goes forward against the foe
His I tomorrow I'll bestow!
Forward to those forgotten worlds
Where light rules, and I'll give them to you!
