Wind bends the feather-grass
Snow lies on the stones
Under a grey sky sleeps
The one who was before us
Moss is on his shoulders
Like green armor grown
The skull looks into the mist
Where sunset burns alone
He has sat here for ages
Clenching gnarled hands
And his lips were silent
Enduring all the lands
On his brow are runes
That no one reads today
He is a mute wall
He is a forgotten way
Oh, stone king
Sleeping under snow and moss
Your crown is a pyramid
Your throne is under frost
We don’t remember your name
But the earth keeps the trace
You’re a forgotten, ancient warrior
You’re the silence of years’ race
Blue shroud at his feet
Like a final pier
He once was a god
And now — just a cliff’s
Nameless spur
Where ashes settled down
And he doesn’t hear alarms
And doesn’t know renown
Only the wind sings
Over the bones of gods
Only time steals
Names from ancient sods
Oh, stone king
Sleeping under snow and moss
Your crown is a pyramid
Your throne is under frost
We don’t remember your name
But the earth keeps the trace
You’re a forgotten, ancient warrior
You’re the silence of years’ race
Hey! Hey! Rise up, wind!
Hey! Hey! Wake him now!
Hey! Hey! But the stone is silent
Hey! Hey! Don’t disturb him now!
Maybe he is us
After thousands of winters?
Our oaths are smoke
Our temples are embers
We’ll go away like streams
Into icy stillness
But mosses will remain
And the silent highness
Oh, stone king
Sleeping under snow and moss
Your crown is a pyramid
Your throne is under frost
We don’t remember your name
But the earth keeps the trace
You’re a forgotten, ancient warrior
You’re the silence of years’ race
And only the mountains remember
How he closed his eyes
The Stone King
Forgotten guard
Sleep
