Beloved PISUHA is in place…
I remember that yard. It always smelled like summer
A scraped knee — but that's alright
I remember lilacs by the porch in the light
And sun in my palms, and puddles of rain
And laughter till falling — no end, no chain
The creaky swings flew up to the sky
And grandma called us home for supper nearby
That yard is my very first song
Where everything simple and honest belonged
Where dreams grew up out of the snow
And love was just love — no race, no show
Paper boats in the streams of spring
And fear that a storm would come in a dream
But mom whispered: "Don't be scared, go to sleep"
And stars were burning like someone's lights, deep
The creaky swings flew up to the sky
And grandma called us home for supper nearby
That yard is my very first song
Where everything simple and honest belonged
Where dreams grew up out of the snow
And love was just love — no race, no show
The ball flew over the fence — no big deal
We knew that happiness was right here, real
Now I'm older, but warmth fills my heart
Of that day where I was just light, just smart
I remember the smell of pies and a storm
I remember catching a dragonfly's form
Time flies away, but I know one thing
Childhood is something that lives within
That yard is my very first song
Where everything simple and honest belonged
Where dreams grew up out of the snow
And love was just love — no race, no show
I remember that yard
And it will always be mine
