I dreamed a dream the other night
A strange one filled my mind
It made me stop and think about
The ways of humankind
And in the pale moons silver glow
A vision came to me
I found myself inside a vast
And endless country
For thousand miles the green fields stretched
Beneath eternal skies
You would hardly find another land
So wealthy and alive
But over all the sheep there ruled
A shepherd grim and cold
With a heavy whip just like a guard
And vicious dogs controlled
Oh the sheep live mighty fine
No worries no troubles in mind
As long as someone stuffs the hay
Straight into their mouths on time
The stupid sheep kept chewing grass
Each night locked in the barn
And if the shepherd beat them down
It never caused alarm
Yet all the sheep stayed happy there
For water filled the trough
They thought their little sheepish lives
Were good enough enough
The shepherd sheared them to the skin
Left barely any wool
Still kept them safe from dying off
His control was absolute
But then one day he cracked the whip
And down the road they came
The sheep walked calmly to the slaughterhouse
And bowed before the blade
Oh it was hard so very hard
Was the shepherds life indeed
But firm and steady was his hand
Until the very end
I woke up soaked in sweat that night
Because i knew that land
Just like the country in my dream
It is filled with sheep again
And all the people think about
Is stuffing mouths and pockets more
The master promised very soon
They would have it better than before
And for that they are ready still
To suffer and obey
Ready to grow more dull each day
Inside the stinking hay
They think the filthy barn is fine
Convenient and warm
Though later they will be sold for meat
And treated just like livestock
Yet they accept it willingly
With gratitude and pride
And march into captivity
Completely satisfied
God forgot to give you brains
So become a sheep in chains
Be content with whip and fence
Never fight against the reins
Do exactly what they say
Stand obedient in line
Be thankful for each scrap they throw
While living caged for life
Be thankful for each scrap they throw
In captivity
In captivity
In captivity
In captivity
